Major changes made in NEET exam in 2024:

Tie-breaking policy:

According to this change, now in case of equal marks, the ranking will be based on the following parameters:

More marks in Biology (Botany + Zoology): If there is a difference in marks in Biology, the candidate with more marks in Biology will get a better rank.
More marks in Chemistry: If marks in Biology are equal, the candidate with more marks in Chemistry will get a better rank.
More marks in Physics: If marks in Biology and Chemistry are equal, then the candidate with more marks in Physics will get a better rank.
More marks in 12th class: If marks are equal in all science subjects, then the candidate with more marks in 12th class will get a better rank.
Date of Birth: If all the above criteria are equal, then the date of birth (earlier born gets a better rank) will determine the ranking.

Other changes:

Increase in application fee: The application fee for NEET UG exam has been increased from ₹1,600 to ₹2,000.
Reduction in examination centres: The number of examination centers has been reduced, due to which some candidates may have to appear at centers away from their home.
Guidelines for candidates: New guidelines have been issued for candidates at the examination centres, such as dress code and list of prohibited items.

• The change in tie-breaking policy will benefit candidates who have scored more marks in Biology.
• Due to increase in application fee, some poor candidates may find it difficult to apply for the exam.
